Introducing our workplace question game, and why it works

I ran a Hello Human experience for 90 people this week. No one really knew what to expect, and there’s always a bit of trepidation before a session.

“Ugh… why must I talk to people?” or “Do we have to?” are thoughts I know participants often have at the start.

People are used to generic ice-breakers that feel like a waste of time; a little cliché.

Hello Human is not that.

After this week’s session, someone came up to me and told me how impressed he was with how well thought out the questions are. That kind of feedback means the world to me because it was entirely intentional.

When I created this facilitation tool (or game, if you like), I dug deep to design questions that would help people connect on a more meaningful level, without the awkwardness that usually comes with group activities.

Because participants can choose the depth of the questions they answer, there’s no pressure to share more than they’re comfortable with. My first priority is always to create a safe space where people can show up as themselves.

I’ve sat at tables where people have shared the most fascinating, vulnerable stories. One woman told us she’d been excommunicated by her family for choosing a different path and breaking with tradition. That hit hard.

Another shared the grief of being ghosted by a close friend, with no explanation and no closure.

These kinds of experiences leave a mark. And being able to share them, even briefly, lightens the load.

Of course, it’s not all serious. We’ve had raucous laughter, unexpected moments of joy, and the kind of conversations people talk about long after the session ends.

And that’s the point - creating a space where people can connect, without judgement or pretence, just real humans showing up.

Curious about what this could look like in your team or event? Get in touch and let’s talk about how Hello Human could work for you.

Until next time,

Marinda
